you know, you shouldn't delete your question and the answer, someone else may be looking for exactly the same thing.

i'm guessing you wanted to know how to access the info screen while riding down the road? there's a couple of ways to do it, but the easiest (imo) is to long press the left thumb toggle. that will bring you to the 'quick jump' screen. once in that screen, flick the left thumb toggle forward like you would if you were changing tracks and that will take you right into the info screen.

if you flick down, like you were turning the volume down, that will mute/pause your music. to start again, flick the volume button up or down.

Sorry about that. I was hoping to avoid wasting people's time, but you're right. Someone else may have the same question.
And you're right as to what my question was - how to access the information screen without having to press the icon on the faceplate. I did find the answer after downloading the manual from the website. And to think they used to give us a printed copy.

Thanks for taking the time to deduce my question and answer it.

I'll be more thorough in my research before I pose a question next time.
