Yeah, alright tooling through the wine country in Cherry valley PA on my Elextra Glide, tunes crankin, floorboards scrapin,I am one with the machine. No one up yet Saturday morning about 0930- no oneexcept a huge bear on all fours in my laneasI round a limited vision curve dragging floorboards. Lots of downshifting and tire chirping going on. As I'm closing in on him he slowwwwly sorta jogs off into the woods. If I would've hit him amd went down I wonder if he'd eat me??? DOH!!! No one would believe me unless you know the area.
Glad he got out of the way, and you are okay. But, if you had hit him, it would have been kindof cool to have a bear skin rug, in front of the fireplace. LOL
I hear ya there, except it would have been lumpy with my front fender and lights between his layers of skin. I was truckin through those turns at about 55 mph- I know...way too fast for a bagger on bling curves. Will be returning to cruise mode when i go out this morning.
We had a similar scenario on the Talimana Pass (in OK) a couple years ago. We had a black bear shoot out of the brush (on all fours) on the right side of the road and disappear into the woods on the left just ahead of the bike in front of me. It was like a deer blowing across in front of you, except it was a f'ing BEAR!
Having lived in Alaska, one is on the lower part of the food chain, when not properly "strapped".
Almost whacked a doe last month... in a drainage ditch munching away... Guess the Vance and Hines was a dinner bell to attempt a broadside crash with theStreet Bob.
Having grownup in Wisconsin, I have seen and heard first hand animal and bike encounters. It's not pretty.
You done good! One more story for the grand kids... They will be in AWE.
I'm in Pa. too and almost hit one a few years ago. My wife and I were taking a slow ride on a back road when a small bear (150-200 lbs) came running out of the woods and was going to cross in front of us. I couldn't get stopped fast enough so my first reaction was to swerve into the other lane and then hope he didn't slam into me. He saw us coming, turned the way we were going and ran right along side of me about two feet from my leg. I could hear his toenails clicking on the pavement. My wife was looking at a field to the left and when she noticed I was on the wrong side of the road, she said "Where the hell are you" and then "OH my God!!!" I'm not lying, that bear ran right beside me for about 100 yards and then turned back into the woods again. I have no idea why I didn't stop the bike and let him go by. I guess I wanted to get a better look at him
