I used to watch guys try to dicker with the sales manager over trade in value of their bike. All the chrome add ons and bells and whistles dont amount for squat on a trade in. Miles, condition, rarity. Thats it. ( I REALLY loved the guys who said they had the system beat.....they used to tell me when they were ready to sell their bike, they were going to strip off EVERY add on part they installed, reinstall the take off parts and trade it in. Uh huh. Good luck with that. )
If your going to spend that much get a new one. You should be able to get a new street glide with the upgraded radio and in your color of choice out the door cheaper than that. Plus you get to break it in, and you'll know the history behind your ride.
Don't get me wrong, I've bought all my Harley's as low mileage garage queens except my latest. I just don't think that bike is a deal when you start looking at how cheap you can pick up low mileage Rushmore twin cam bikes right now.
Custom paint is great.... if you like it and if you accept that if it ever gets damaged you are going to have a hard time finding replacement tins
and that's why i have vivid black right now. i loved my cvo, had no plans to get rid of it anytime soon. but once it got totaled, i wanted to get something that i could get painted parts for a reasonable cost. i hit a deer with my cvo, and had to replace the front fender. i did the labor myself, $1100 just for the fender. i can get a vivid black front fender for $125 to $200 without even really trying hard.

that's what i do with every bike that i've ever traded in. if it was worth it to me. i didn't mess with pulling off the exhaust and putting stock on, just too much of a hassle. but most of the other parts, yeah, i took em back. some i could use on the new bike, some i couldn't. but either way, i'm not in the habit of just giving stuff away to the dealer if i don't have to. i don't think of it as 'beating the system', more as working within the system.
Humm 24k in add on's and they want 25k for the bike, do you really think they gave the OP anything extra for the add on's? NO!!! the OP lost his *** I'm sure, keep looking, don't listen to the first shiny bullshit story the dealer tells you. go over to the "for sale" section in the forum and poke around. plenty of great deals to be had for a lot less then what your clown dealer is giving.
Thanks for all the advice....I very much appreciate it
For a little more detail, this is NOT the exact bike I am looking at but it is very close. The one I am considering does not have a tour pack. It is a 1 of 400 paint set. I can get into it for 20k.
No way I would pay over 34k for a 2016 Special. As already stated, the paint et is cool, but in the end will that make the bike run better? In that range I would be looking for a CVO that will have a better resale value. 25k is also a no go to me. But it's your money so our opinion really does not matter.
typical trade in is $13,375 and dealer retail is $16,600. you can bet your bottom dollar that when that bike was traded in, they gave the previous owner next to nothing for all the extras. so why should you pay for them now? no way would i pay $25 for that bike. you can buy a cvo of that era for a little more than that price. if i really liked the paint, i might give up $500-$1000. but no more than that.
if you pay the asking price, you would absolutely have allowed your emotions to lead you down the path of losing your ***. my thinking is that if you think you're only gonna ride this bike for a year, then don't buy it. every vehicle that i buy, i plan on keeping for the long haul. it may turn out that i don't, but that's the plan.

If you're going to spend 20K just go ahead and buy a new bike, or mostly stock low mile garage queen. Value on the bike you're looking at is going to drop like an anchor as you cross the curb.
