Yes one reason I want a touring model is to make it more comfortable for my wife. Not much room on the back of a sporty. Not to mention the ride probably is not too good, even with the air shocks I put on.

Gonna see if I can do another test tomorrow. Have not even called the dealer yet, lol. They have a drawing for test riding a new bike, till the end ov Nov., each test is one entry for a $500 gift card for HD accessories. Another good reason to test one. :-)

You may also want to take a look at the street glide standard, as opposed to the special. Basically the base model at a much better price point. You will lose some amenities like a 107 vs a 114 and the radio, along with chrome bits rather than black. - the HD web site has a feature where you can compare the bike specs side by side.

You can also shop around for a left over 19, When I bought my 15 it was a left over, and I got it for $3000 under MSRP.

I think you got the fever now, so my guess is it wont be long until tou post back with a pic of your new ride

Most likely I will not be able to get one that new, but the same logic applies, I agree regardless of the year. Just depends on what models were out during that year. I have been scouring ads seeing what I might expect. Unfortunately, it will be about 10 months before I am officially "in the market" so these test drives are research, and familiarization with different models, for handling, fitting me etc.

On that note is the seat on street glides normally narrower in the front than an electraglide? I did sit on an electraglide but could not reach the kick stand, which is not good. Some have suggested the Reach seat, so I will see if the dealer has one to try. The local dealer has a drawing for a $500 gift card and each entry is based on testing a NEW bike, so that is why I have focused on the new ones. I do not have the funds for a new bike and told the salesman that. He is fine with that. He knows I will be looking for a used one. Otherwise I would probably have waited a little longer to start test riding.

You might want to test ride an Electra Glide Standard, Basically the same bike as a Street Glide with some minor differences. No radio, set up as a 1 up bike, (but I’m sure you can find some passenger pegs and a 2 up seat relatively cheap) and different wheels. They are 18,900 MSRP, and if my theory of 3K off a left over holds true (May have to do some shopping) you could, in theory get one for 15.9 (Pus tax and freight) 10 months from now, the 2020’s will be left overs.

Not sure if that fits your budget. If not, the 14+ Rushmore bikes with the HO twin Cam 103’s are great bikes, As of today, I have no interest in trading up to an M8.

Have fun testing, and shopping! - - Hope you win the Gift Card!!!

Thanks for the well wish on the card. My goal is to get an ultra, where or not my inseam will allow that remains to be seen, lol. Right now I am seeing bikes in the 2010-2012 range that fir my budget and year requirements, based on what I have learned on this forum. Things like the new frame in 2009, the 96 and 103 engines, and looking for a low miles bike. Unless I REALLY stretch payment terms, which I prefer not to do since it is a used bike.

When I get my next ride, I will post.

Not sure where “out west” you are but If you don’t mind a twin cam vs the M8, you can find good prices on a Rushmore, especially this time of year. Here is a 2015 Ultra Limited with 17k miles for $12,950. This place always has tons of used bikes, most of them Harleys.

Bummer you didn’t get to test ride today...
The Street Glide seat is not the same as the Ultras.
Some will say not as comfy, but I’ll do a 300-400 mile day.
As stated by me before, I’m considering a change for my wife’s benefit. She’s okay on the back for a little, but won’t go long tour... what makes it look nice (the taper down in the back, to contour to the fender) makes it uncomfortable for her.
I would highly suggest staying in the Rushmore years (2014-present)... but budget reins supreme, understandably.

Hope ya get a gift card. Go test every day!!!

Yea budget is master. Ok so all ultras after 2014 are rushmore models? Trying to understand.

Cowboydoc

Unfortunately, in CA. Love the weather here but hate the idiots we have in charge. Thanks for the link. Where is that bike located? I have to check and see what is required to register a out of state bike here. We do not have to smog them (yet) but I bet there is some "inspection" it has to go through to register an out of state bike.

Yes, 2014 and newer are Rushmore bikes - one touch saddlebag latches and improved radio/nav/screen for the bikes with fairings. I would definitely try for a 2014 or newer bike if budget allows.

The bike I posted is in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma (Tulsa area). Action Powersports has 2 or 3 locations in the state. I bought my first “real” bike (Yamaha V-Star 950) from their Tulsa store.
