Default SG vs EGUltra

I know some of this has been gone over before, read some of the threads on it, but still have a couple of questions.

1. Can you, and do people ever put aux lights, like RK models and Ultras have, on Street Glides?

2. One of the issues I have, due to inseam length, is not reaching the ground enough to flat foot a Ultra, so can something like the DK custom, 1" lowering kit for rear shocks be installed? I can flat foot a SG which is 1" lower, is why I ask. The lowering kit would still allow the longer shock travel, but at a slightly different angle than stock.

After reading a lot of posts it seems I might be better off with a slightly lowered Ultra, for my purposes. The lowering kit would probably make that possible. Not a fan of lowered bikes, but 1" would not kill me, or the bike, besides, it would be like the SG then, so not super low.

I bought used SG shocks, and put them on my EG Ultra. I also have a HD low seat. I'm 5'7" with a 29-30" inseam, andI flat foot no problem now. I could semi flat foot with just the low seat. Once the shocks were added, I am 100% flat footed. It was an easy mod and fairly cheap because I bought used. Steering does feel slightly different now, but that's to be expected. Nothing drastic. It seems to just turn in a little easier now. Still stable on the super slab.

You're better off getting a lower & narrower seat and not lowering your suspension if you can get away with it. The stock suspension isn't the best to begin with, and they are worse when you lower them.
The PO of my Road King lowered it front and rear and I hate it, I keep threatening to put the stock suspension back on... one of these days I will.

Bubba, I have been reading just that, with the lowering being the last ditch approach. Is the rake and trail the same on both bikes? I ask because I actually raised my XL1200L and my feet touch ground just a hair better than the Ultra, but not as much as the SG. The XL is a lot narrower though so easier in that respect also.

The salesman did point out that the M8s are narrower in the clutch pack area, making it easier for shorter people as well, when compared to engines like the 103 and 96.

Its looking like its possible, now more than ever. This site and you guys are a wealth of information and advice, and all of it is considered and appreciated, even if I do not always go the way some think I should.

Thanks. I am sure many would rightly ask, why not just get one already set up? Good question.

I added 1/2" to the soles of my boots after getting the seat modified by MCC. The combination worked for me.
I did not want to lower my suspension.

All of the touring bikes share the same frame, motor, trans, and suspension. Many share body parts as well. Its pretty east yo adapt parts from one touring bike onto just about any other. They are essentially all the same bikes with different trim levels if you want to look at that way.

Dont they still make the ultra slim? Those are lower and slimmer easier to reach the ground.
