Yeh, and make sure it is tight. Mine fell once and upon inspection found the bolt was not as tight as it should have been.
That how my RKS came from the dealer. First time I went to park it I almost dropped it, needless to say it got fixed as soon as I got a wrench and to this day I keep it handy just in case.
Hey Sandcrab, didn't he know what those engine guards were for..before he took them off? That model came with them as standard equipment. They are on there just in case of crazy stuff like that happening. That was a COSTLY lesson. I sincerely hopes he learned from that episode. Man, talk about having your day ruined....
Who knew? All this time I thought they were there to hold the Highway Pegs.
The "minimalist" look does nothing to minimize damage in an otherwise minimal tip-over. To each is own. The FIRST thing my son did to his new Road Glide Ultra was add the rear crash bars.
What year was it? Dont recall an Ultra that did not come with bag guards. Rear crash bars. The Special does not have them.

by bag guards, do you mean the ones that wrap around the rear bags? as Limiteds just have the front part of that assembly. My non-Limited has the rear guards and the wrap around.

If you've ever had sand on your concrete garage floor, it can be like marbles and super easy to slip when putting a foot down-anyone ever have that happen? guards are well worth the cost.
I guess this fits here - There's a local bar I frequent (or used to) that had its parking lot repaved (blacktop). Issue was, they left all this sand on top here and there. Absolutely every time I went to park this summer and put my foot down, my foot would start to slip due to the sand. It was pretty bad. Didn't drop bike, but started parking across the street at a bar w/ a gravel lot- at least there you know what you're getting.
Anyway, at the slippery bar, I commented to the bartender about it - as I couldn't be the only one w/ the issue - mentioned they may want to get a blower and blow all the sand away. She got super bitchy and became a complete c**t after that- so I stopped going there! I did PM the bar on FB about it, in all reality its a huge liability for a bar similar to not salting an icy entryway where folks can slip/fall in winter.

No. Just the "rear crash bar" PC name. Bag guards. Those rails are an add on now. He said his sons ultra had no rear crash bar. I assume he was talking about the main crash bar. Not the wrap around rails that you add

no idea why someone would remove those, they're hardly noticeable. I see in post 1 they are not on the bike, but it looks like there's something little there behind passenger floorboard (?) Dunno.

Some people like the look without the rails. HD provides a solution.
yea I get some folks want a clean look, tho I don't
That link....is the bars under the bags (?), that must be what I see in the OPs photo. That wouldn't help if a bike fell on its side (unless I am missing something)

Those are the guards I had on my Limited when I tipped it over....
The top part of that guard, kept my rear, hard saddle bag from sustaining any damage....
I didn't have any rear guards on my Heritage when the lady hit me, the front crash bar saved my front fender, tank, and engine from damage, but my rear leather saddle bags were scratched/gouged without the guards.... luckily, leather saddle bags are far more forgiving than hard bags... I was able to "clean up" the leather gouge/scratch marks so it's not really visible now unless you look for it....
