Bike Fell over
At any rate, we picked it up, it is an older bike, probably 2001 I am guessing but with a custom paint job, and no crash bars.
It cracked or broke the fiberglass on the fairing, it scratched the bottom of the saddlebag and scratched the lid of the saddlebag. The tour pak has some slight damage on the top, and as we were looking at the damage, it started leading red tranny fluid and gas all over the concrete.
Needless to say, he was devastated as he just bought it and we were making the first long ride with it. We both got down and looked under the bike but could not find anything broke. I plugged the closest dealer which was 15 miles away, and we went to have them check out the bike. The oil apparently came out of the overflow vent line, so we checked the fluid level, and it was fine. No problem the tech said, so we rode it home, about 400 miles round trip.
The fairing didn't just crack, it broke a chunk out of the fairing roughly 1"X1" hole in the fairing. It is a custom paint job. I say it will cost him $4500 to fix it. This is the before.

The Best of Harley-Davidson for Lifelong Riders
In October of 18, I was trading my 2018 FLHCS in for the SGS in the picture. The day before the SGS was being delivered to my home by the dealer, a fellow rider crashed into me and did some serious damage to my bike. I was devastated. Thinking the deal would be off and I would be faced with long repair, I called the dealer and told him the story. He asked me if the claim would be an insurance claim....and I said yes. He said “no worries” the driver will pick up the Heritage as previously arranged at the time they deliver the SGS and all will be well. And that’s what happened.
I NEVER heard from the dealer again about the damaged bike and have ridden my SGS for more than a year....happy as a lark.
Message of this story....which many of you already know.....to the dealer, the wreck was a godsend. The would first rape the insurance company and repair the bike at an astronomical price, sell the bike which would be perfectly good since all the damage was cosmetic. They were going to have a real windfall. Why am I not surprised.
