Default Key fob?

I have an 09 ultra classic that I bought preowned. It didn't come with the key fob and I wanted to know if anyone can tell me how to check if it's equipped for one? I am hoping all I need to do is buy the fob and not the whole system.

If you can start it without one it doesnt have the security system. Where did you buy the bike from, do the blinkers blink when you shut off the ignition?

If you go to the H-D website and the Owners tab you can enter your VIN and get the original details on your bike, which may say if it has the security system. You can also download the owners manual, which will tell you how the security system works, if you do have it!

I thought they all had the fob but the alarm was an add on. If you don't have the fob, your only way to secure the bike would be lock the fork, right? Man would that be annoying.

Look under the seat for the Hands Free Security Module (HFSM) antenna.

I had a friend that had a Street Glide that either the dealer never activated the system or some how disabled it. I noticed that it was not acting the same as mine so one day i walked up to it and tried starting it without the fob close. It started!!! I suggested that she take it to the dealer she bought it from to check it out. They wound up programing both fobs and now all is well.

I meant with these touring Harley's anyway. It's not like a normal ignition where the key stays in, ya know. I'd be miffed if I had to get the key out, unlock, put key away then repeat every time I went anywhere. Obviously locking the fork is the most secure way, but I'm not worried about my 900lb bike walking away without me in the places I go.

Try it the other way around, in the middle of nowhere and the security system won't YOU start YOUR machine. Happens with surprising frequency.

Miffed? Where do you keep your key? The whole process shouldn't take more than 10-15 seconds, assuming the key is in your pocket.
