Slip-ons are a placebo for performance and that's about it. You hear the roar of your engine and you think it's more powerful.
That would really depend on the bike. A Harley, yeah, maybe so. I have seen guys flogging their Harley's and are definitely more show than go. Dyno results on other bikes say different. Gains of 5 to 10 hp with a good slip on are very realistic.
Ryan, my query was to the original post as to performance differentials with slip-ons. Given that Rhinehart, RCX , Cobra etc were mentioned, I was wondering if anyone noticed a change with the Street Cannons. Sorry.
I have a '14 street glide with CR 570 cams, fuel moto head pipe an power vision tuner. I currently have 4" RCX slip's on the bike. They look good an sound OK. I wouldn't mind a deeper sound an I plan on a dyno tune this spring so if I'm gonna change the now is the time....plus there's 2 sets for sale near me....a pair of 4.5" V&H high outputs an a set of 4.5" cobra power flo's. Would either exhaust perform any better than the CRX? I don't know how much you lose or gain with just a muffler change. any info is appreciated!
its pretty much the same thing in the car world 2-5 rwhp between stock and to the best/worst. With a bike its probably less. Like someone else stated its a placebo effect but you can get more noise.
On a bike thats already had that kind of work done, slip on's alone will add/subtract 7-10 HP and maybe 2-3 ft lbs of torque. Not enough that you will notice a performance difference (seat of the pants) but the numbers will show if the bike gets a dyno run.
