My 6 year old daughter is tall enough to comfortably reach the pegs and she has a mighty grip too... though the bike never moved when she was on it. That will change this spring when I get her fitted for a helmet and riding jacket. My son is also growing fast and maybe the both of them can get some rides with dad this summer. Now to warm the wife up to this.

She had a bear getting the clutch out but then was off to the races, at 3mph. When the oldest grandson got his learners permit. I took him to a nearby residential subdivision under construction. I had him drive all through it in our van - backwards and without the backup camera. From then on out he had confidence and found handling vehicles to be much easier. This past Christmas next in line middle grandchild turned 15. A beautiful friendly athletic girl but a little short on confidence in driving. We got 6" or so of snow. I took her to a near by junior high with a big empty parking lot and said "sweetie, lets learn how to cut cookies.......". We had fun.

Taught all for of my kids to drive in the snow. Youngest one was the funnest, headed around out neighborhood while talking about driving in the snow, about 4" of snow on the road, an old Toyota Camry, I reached down and yanked on the parking brake and she went spinning out of control. Then we talked about counter steering and went to a high school parking lot, when she got used to controlling the front wheel drive car we went back home, got the Jeep Cherokee out and let her try driving in 4WD and RWD only. She really liked the Cherokee in RWD in the parking lot, she got real good at making it spin and correcting it. She was drifting all around the lot for at least an hour.

As for the kids riding on the bike, the older 3 rode in front of me on the dirt bike at probably 2 or 3, riding behind me on the street around 6 or 7.

Back in my sportbike days. I gave my daughter a ride on my ZX-12R at age 12. But currently my son has gone on a few good 20-30 mile romps on the back of my Electra with a king tour pack with wrap around backrest at age 7

My daughters began riding with me as soon as hey could reach the pegs. A bit of browsing will find you a safety harness designed for motorcycles, if you are concerned. It is a five point harness attached to a weight belt that the pilot straps on. It works well, actually took some convincing that they wee safe enough without it once they got older.

If he can't reach the boards, get some adjustable pegs that you can adjust to him.

My dad still has his ace (99 1100, mine 98 1100) and he let me ride it a few times, that's when I fell in love with them. I got lucky and found my Ace Tourer on eBay (divorce sale). I'd still have mine today but I wanted a new fuel injected bike.

The only thing that bothers me is a kid on the back with no helmet. They aren't mature enough to make that choice. I would hate to be the one that hurt or killed a child in a wreck because I didn't make them wear a helmet.
