Default Progressive International Cycle Show

Just curious from those that have already gone to this years Progressive International Cycle Show this year.....was it any good? I ask because last years show in Chicago was less than very good. Fewer displays, missing vendors, missing manufacturers (lots of open floor space). I know the industry is going though a bit of a tough stretch but last years Chicago show was very disappointing and not really worth the $20 admission and $20 parking.......any 2020 reviews from those that have attended?

Me and my buddies have been going to the Progressive show in NY the last few years and we are done. It’s fine if you are in the market for a bike, but that’s it. Each year there are fewer vendors and this year was smaller by about 1/3 the size. Save your money unless you are looking to see just motorcycles.

Depends on what you're going for...for sure it was no smaller than last year, and I enjoyed the heck out of it.

The show and it’s size has always gone up and down around here. I’d be hard pressed to spring $40 for it.

A huge draw for me has been the world travelers and tour companies giving talks. I’ve spent many hours just listening, and have made some friends.

As for bikes, that’s from the local dealerships. There’s a few that are always there, but the smaller brands is hit and miss. Lots of fun being able to plant my butt on many rides, even if I’m not actively shopping.

The aftermarket vendor list never seems to change at our show.

That said, our progressive show finally died. There is one not far away in another city. But it’s got similar cost problems as yours, and doesn’t host the speakers that ours did. I haven’t gone, and am not terribly inclined to go.

I went to the one in Long Beach. All the bike brands were there. Vendor turn out was pretty decent. Like previous stated, it's what you're looking for. If you're bike shopping, great. I went for the ride out there and back. The show is just something to do.

Thanks....from reading some of the replies, it sounds like there's a good chance this years will be my last for awhile. Since I'm not in the market for a new bike but do like the after market vendors booths, I'll probably attend this year and no more. I think one problem that's occurring is the floor space is getting crazy expensive for all but the most "wealthy" of the companies. For many, the costs don't equal the return on investment. I used to design trade show exhibits and I can tell you that many exhibition facilities, cities and union labor costs have driven away all but the biggest exhibitions. Even the Chicago Auto Show (one of the largest in the country) had lots of unusual open floor space last year and it was very noticeable. The exhibits that were there were tighter and smaller, thus saving big money. The cycle industry just doesn't have the luxury of spending without a decent return, I suppose. Too bad!

I have a friend who used to be a VP at GPJ, used to always complain about having to pay the union guys to sit while their people did the work.

I go each year to the NY show. After dealing with a few years of the OCC craze, then all the "stunt BOYZ", this year wasn't too bad.. Attendance is down so getting around the show was better than normal and the retro bikes the metric companies are coming out with were pretty good.
IMO it as one of the better shows in the last 10 years. I wish vendors offered show specials though.. Very little of that going on any more. I'm in the market for a helmet but other than Cycle Gear selling their branded cra*, no one offers specials worth a darn.

Brother and I went every year in January. When they switched to December in NYC we haven't been. Forty bucks to park, forty bucks to get in, walk around and see the bikes and there is now only a couple of manufacturers products I'm interested in. That and some manufacturers aren't even there, why bother. I can drive to my local dealerships see the bikes I like, sit on them, ride them, no need to go to NYC..
