This is why I bought Dad's BBD. Asked myself how I'd feel if I saw someone else riding it down mainstreet, especially some kid who did't care for it. Couldn't stand the though. Dad and I have 15,000ish miles beside one another. I remember the day he got it home and what led up to his ordering this specific bike. The history. I can be a sentimental wimp with some things. This bike was one of them. I didn't put much more than 1k miles on it last year.

More than anything, when my Dad passes I'll take a road trip on this to the states/landmarks we rode together. It was our 'thing'. Still bothers me he had to hang up his helmet, I get it, but I miss riding with him. Keeping his bike and seeing the smile on his face when he visits her and fires her up, makes me feel good. He still likes to sit on it and crack the throttle. I'm glad I can do that for him.

I think you are wasting your time with dealers, "Market price" is less. You'd probably get more if you broke it up into parts.

Put it on blocks, grease it up, wrap it up, and forget about it until you've a son of a grandson. Or a ballsy grandaughter. At 25 years old it's at its lowest value and if its ridden, will hit it fast.

Keep it in perfect condition until its 50 years old.

Oh, and stick in some choice spare parts for it as they're already beyond obsolete.

In the used market, add-ons don't add much value to the bike. No one cares that it has $25k in add-ons. Someone looking for a 20 year old bike wants to know three things: 1) does it run, 2) do I like it, and 3) what's the cheapest price I can pay?

And they're going to take half the parts off to turn it back into stock.

Yeah, it's a kind of time warp back to the chromoholic days. $25k of chrome is worth nothing in comparison to today's upgrades (engine/suspension/brake) but, like flares, it'll come back into fashion eventually and then it will an OTT original piece.

I would never sell that bike! Besides, what you'd probably get for it wouldn't be very much compared to the memories you have with the bike. IMHO, that bike would/should stay in the family forever.

Could also end up being useful what with emission laws coming in. Depends on where you are but sometimes they are outlawing a couple of decades of vehicles but giving a free pass for "vintage" vehicles over a certain age.
