>Sober< Harley owners wishing to sell should go to ebay and look up the >completed< sales that actually sold (values in green). Make any guessed adjustments that you think are applicable and hope you get that much. If you weren't sober about what someone would pay for your bike then after you look at what people were actually willing to pay you will probably come out of that research sober.
Hey guys! Thank you again for all the kind words and thoughts, I really appreciate it!! My parents made it home a couple of weeks ago so I put up an ad for the bike yesterday. Decided to list it rather than do a donation raffle because of the hassle and who knows who will end up with it. And put it higher than market value because of how clean and perfect it is. If the right buyer made a decent offer we'll let it go for less. This is the only place I have it listed so if it sells we'll make a donation to HDF. Please spread the word and help find "The Pig" a new home. Thanks again!
A few guys have asked about the gauge kit and kickstand. I'm waiting on the manufacture of the stand and will post about it soon but here is a better photo of the gauge for now.
And I understand I started the price at the moon. Totally open to offers. In the end it is all about finding his bike a good home. So if you know someone with a tight budget that wants a flawless Road King please send them my way. He would be absolutely tickled if a veteran, first responder or someone deserving ended up with it and gave the Pig a proper home.
Well, its official, I'm keeping my father's Road King...
First and foremost I'm very thankful for everyone within the HDF community for the support. Without HDF we wouldn't have ended up making the decision for me to keep the bike and that means so much to me.
A couple of weeks ago I was at my wits end spending the quarantine in Seattle with my wife. A good friend of mine decided in March to ride out Covid at his home in Punta Mita, MX. He asked me to come down a number of times but I didn't feel right leaving my wife or flying commercial. The week before Memorial Day he had to have his jet serviced in Oregon then flown back to PV so he could come back to Portland to join the world again. He called and said to "get my *** on the plane and spend a few days away". So, of course, I did. While down there I received a message from a great guy, David, in New York with a very respectful offer on the Road King. As luck would have it I was near my friend while messaging with him, I was thinking about my dad and I need to take his offer. My friend asked what I was working on so I gave him the back story. He argued that there is no way I could let it be sold, I said I felt the same way but dealing with storage and letting the bike sit isn't how I would like to see the Road King spend the next 10+ years. As it turns out he has a hanger for his collectable, bikes and whatnot. And that he has a guy who services them every year and keeps his collection maintained. He offered to keep the Road King with his collection as long as I would ride with him from time to time.
At first I was all in but as I thought about it when I returned home I wasn't comfortable leaning on a friend like that. All the while David had been great, respecting my decision process, waiting to hear back from me. This morning I woke up thinking the Road King situation has gone on long enough. I called my friend to make sure he's still OK with his offer, he was, then I called my parents. I gave them the backstory, laid out the 2 options and said "take your time and let me know what you decide". My dad said in a crackling voice, "I don't need anytime, I'm so happy this all has worked out as it should".
All I can think about about is how perfect this saga turned out. Without having HDF to work through this process, the kind words and support it wouldn't have had this happy ending. I truly appreciate it and am very grateful! I would like to make a donation to HDF or to a charity you all support to serve as a small thank you. I tried to message Terry but his mailbox is full. Hopefully someone will be in contact with the appropriate details.
Thank you to all of you. I hope everyone is safe and this story makes you smile. Please think about this thread next time someone makes a snarky comment to you and realize the positivity this community produces.
