I'm trying to lessen the wind coming up from around the tank. I think between that and over the windshield it's making my full face helmet almost vibrate.

I bought a set of cheap knock-offs like those off eBay just to see if they helped with cutting down on the wind flow and they did, but they wouldn't stay put very long, the bolts rusted, and they were just plain chinese cheap. I decided to go ahead and get the OEM Harley ones with a X-mas gift card but I won't be installing them until this coming weekend when I swap out all my newly painted tins. I like them though, they help.

I’ve noticed a big difference between when my OEM ones are opened vs. closed. Don’t cheap out. Get the HD ones.

Those help a lot but what helps even more are the fork mounted deflectors, known as fork fangs. I’ve had both on my last two bikes and they’re both well worth it. And btw, I happen to have a set for sale that came off my 2014 Street Glide. I sold the bike and they won’t fit my Road Glide.

I have to agree on the H-D fork fangs. I hate the looks but they make riding so smooth with zero buffeting for me. The wind hitting my helmet used to blur my vision around 65 mph and faster.

If you can stand the look, fork fangs are a great option. I, however, hate the way they look and have installed the adjustable vents that you linked (OEM though). I found they did help control air, but more so with cold air across my thighs. I do also have the 'ash tray' deflector mounted to the triple tree above the fender. That one helps quite a bit with air coming up around the tank.

YMMV...

This is a popular topic that has kept us busy many times over the years! Another aid to consider are the RG deflectors that mount at the front of the tank, also the multitude of aftermarket windshields.

Will the lower fairings help / hurt the situation?

They essentially make your fairing a little wider. More wind protection. They DO work. I have an older set that are non adjustable. They make a very noticeable difference.
