Here is another important piece of information that others might find helpful. All map purchases are tied to the radio from which the fingerprint was created. The first step in checking for any updates, even the free Halrey Dealership POI updates, on your bike using the GTS Boombox Toolbox, is to plug in a USB drive to your radio and create a fingerprint. You then insert that USB drive into your computer and fire up the GTS Boombox Toolbox. The toolbox uses that fingerprint to determine what updates are available for your bike and also uses it to tie any purchases you make to that specific radio.
What that means for anyone who has had to replace his radio, like me, is that you will no longer have access to the purchased map update within the toolbox because the fingerprint created on the replacement radio is different than the one used to make the purchase. No combination of tricks will allow you to get this to work - believe me, I tried all of them.
You have to contact Harley Customer Care and explain the situation. They will then require that you send them a zipped up copy of the fingerprint from your replacement radio, the receipt that is sent when you purchase the map update within the toolbox, and the email address that was used to sign into the toolbox. With this information, they can then transfer the purchase to your new fingerprint and login so that you will see the map update that you purchased as an available download. I have been informed that the transfer process takes approximately 2-3 business days. They will email me when the transfer is complete.
I hope this helps someone else avoid the complete and utter headache this has been for me.

hmmm. i just recently updated the dealer poi on my gts and i didn't have to do any of that. downloaded the file, unzipped it, put the folders on my usb stick. turned on the gts, plugged in the stick, and then hit 'yes' when it asked if i wanted to update. fingerprints, toolboxes, etc. i have no idea on cause i didn't do it.
as far as updating maps? nah, not gonna do it. i didn't do it in the wife's caddy, didn't do it in my gmc sierra, and i'm not gonna do it on my bike. i figure the onboard nav will be close enough that i can get where i'm going, and if i really need an updated map, then i've got apple CarPlay to use waze, google maps, etc.

I am very curious. The way you did it would not seem possible. Before you can even login to the GTS Toolbox software, it must first detect a USB drive with a valid fingerprint. Is it possible that the USB drive you inserted to your computer already had the fingerprint from a previous update? My guess would be if you inserted that USB drive into your computer, formatted it, and then fired up the HD GTS Toolbox, the HD GTS Toolbox would not even recognize the USB and allow you to continue. Are you using the HD Boombox GTS software or the NaviExtras Toolbox? This is kind of a dumb question on my part because I am most certain that the NaviExtras Toolbox no longer works with the GTS radios.
well, this is the first time that i have ever updated the radio (2019 gts) and prior to that i had a 2013 with the old harmon kardon. i never logged on to any 'toolbox', either gts toolbox or naviextras toolbox. just downloaded the zip file, unzipped it and placed the files on my usb stick and plugged it in to the gts radio. it picked up the update and asked if i wanted to update. i clicked on 'yes' and it did it all. remember too, i did not update any maps, just the infotainment sw and the dealer poi.
and followed these directions: (the update went quickly and smoothly, but the last module for the xm, seemed to take a lot of time and looked like it was hanging. that could be because i don't have xm, so it was trying to find it?)

Thank you for clarifying. You absolutely followed the correct procedure for system and dealer POI updates. For system updates, there is no need to download the HD Boombox GTS Toolbox. The fingerprint is only needed for map updates which also includes POI updates. I would suggest you create a fingerprint, download and install the HD Boombox GTS software, insert the USB, login (create an account if you do not already have one) and let it check for available updates. I believe the non-dealership points of interest are free. These cannot be downloaded from the software page you linked above.
Even if the Nav in the bike was 100% up to date it still wont navigate around traffic and other delays.
The phone navigation is just better. The Boom GTS is just a display for my phone these days.
But thanks for the details on your issues with updates. It was illuminating.
I agree that CarPlay is the way to go. The problem I have with CarPlay is it does not work well with my Cardo PackTalk bold while communicating with my buddies, who also hav PackTalk Bold devices, in 'mesh mode'. Mesh mode is the alternative to using Bluetooth and is much clearer and has a greater range. Maybe the radio replacement will resolve the issues I was having that I just chalked up to be a compatibility issue. We found out that the radio was also not recognizing the front amp in Digital Tech. The mechanic so no matter what he did he could not get the old radio to see the amp. Maybe there were other issues with the radio causing my PackTalk Bold issue.
I do wish CarPlay would work without having to plug your phone into the radio via USB.
