I just wanted to take a minute to thank everyone for their comments and feed back. I will be going with the OEM. Saddle bag guard (crash bars). I have not been a Harley owner for long. But I'm very happy to be. I don't have much to say about the bike yet . I only have 75 miles on. It is comfortable, the Hard mounted fairing and add weight is not much of an issue as I Transition over from my ST1100. I have much to say about this forum and the people I have met. There is a true love for the bikes and a real care and concern about the people who ride them. Not talking bad about the metric folks, They are some great people. But from day one I felt a different vibe. The moment I bought it I had a couple of old timers (i should say old cause we all get their still not use to being called sir by young folk) at the dealer telling about the bike, their experiences, events, and we exchanged numbers. I found out about the forum while putting gas in my car from a stranger who saw the bike as we pumped gas and chatted. Its a different community and love of a metal horse. My only means of transportation was a motorcycle for most of my teens 20s and part of my part 30s car was not an option couldn't afford if then my bike was a second vehicle. Later it became my escape and wind therapy. That's when I appreciated the true meaning of riding. Reading about and watching the history shows of the company its not much different than the company I work for so as far as jumping the brand name band wagon that not me but jumping on my bike and riding with and group of strangers that are true to themselves and other Well I'm all in.. Thank you all.
When the MoCo changed the style on the 14 and up models they got cheesy and chincy with them. Pre 14 guards were much beefier and bigger in diameter. I would bet my left ******** that the new style is no better than the dozens of repops available. Besides, with over 75% or more of HD parts made these days are coming from Korea, China and god only knows where else do you really think the saddlebag guards are made any better than repops?
Ive never heard of an OEM saddle bag guard collapsing. Mine save my bags during a drop. The OEM ones are solid steel.
Im tired of hearing the Harley parts are cheap Chinese crap,
I have a 2020 RG special was looking at adding Saddle bag guards. Is it worth doing? Are afternmarkets safe?
I have them and boy do they work. It is a fact that the term, Pay once Cry once.Is true. Go with the Harley brand. I have to say they have paid for them self. Yes, better to have and not need, than need and not have.

I also agree, go with the Harley bag guards. And if you've installed or are gonna install fairing lowers, with the bag guard, not only will they protect your bags in a drop, but also the lowers.
