Ordered headlight trim ring with the built in visor part# 3100431. The part arrived fast but with no instructions. Spent 1/2 hour on phone with JP, they tried everything they could think ofand they couldnt find anydirections to send meor anypictures to tell mewhere the 2 spring clips go.Called Custom Chrome , their catalog has the same picture and the same wording as the JP catalog , they couldnt help me unless I was a dealer.
So has anyone ever installed this trim ring and maybe have clue where these clips go?
If you have ever taken your headlight ring off, you will notice 2 retaining clips that looksomething like the onesin your picture. They attach onto the headlight/pushing against the ring. Please look at the diagram in the service manual, it will help.
Hate to say this, but I think you got my junk part! I got my trim ring from J&P last month, had a heck of a time trying to get it to fit my FLHTC. I had tried to bend the long wire that fits into the top of the HD headlamp housing and after a couple tries the wire broke in two. I sent it back and got a refund (good for J&P). Look at the bottom of the trim ring at the rear of the ring, does it look ground down sightly? If it is, its my part and you should send it back. Can't believe they'd just repack it and resell it. The wire is supposed to be one piece. The problem I had was trying to install onto a dresser with fairing, and could not lift the ring high enough to engage the wire into the slot, fairing eyebrow got in the way. Hope that helps.

OMGTHATS BS It must be your old one. I can see where the wire is broke, and if I put them together it looks like a wire that I was expecting to see and bottom of ring looks ground down. I hope I calm down time they open tomorrow.
Hey, sorry you got the part, but at least you know where it came from now. Good luck on the return/exchange. It would have fit on a RK, but not my FLHTC. Wanted to not have the dreaded gap, but ended up with the HD part anyway (gap looks ok on mine).
