I am wanting to get a Road King. I only ride about 2k miles a year and never on long trips. Any reason to pay $20k for a new one when I can get a 2009 model with 10K miles for $9k? Thanks for any advice.
Yes. you can get a much newer bike (Rushmore, '14 or newer) for that price or very close to it. In fact, I just looked on the first page of the member marketplace and found this:
Absolutely no reason to get a new bike for a bar hopper..........
Especially if you can get an '09 model, which had all the frame updates....
You didn't say which model Road King it was, but, $10K if it's a 2009 Road King Classic is a bit much to pay.... it's a buyer's market and that seller is dreaming...
I have a 07 Roadking with 14,000 miles and trying to get just $7,000 for it,,,contact me if your interested,,I live right down the street in Memphis,,,I have matching tour pack to go with it and second seat,,,
After buying a brand new one I can honestly say I should have bought a used one, before buying mine there was one I test rode ,a 110th CVO Anniversary model for $10,900 with less than 8,000 miles, kinda kicking myself now. New is nice though if you want to pay.

I am 73 years old and ride about 2,500 miles per year. 4 years ago I picked up a real clean 2002 Road King FLHR with 15,000 miles and couldn't be happier with that decision. It will most likely be my last bike.
I buy used, because I'm not willing to shell out the cash for new. But, this also means I don't get to pick the custom colors and such. Doesn't *really* matter to me, but it also means I'm a lot more limited in what I can find used. If all I want is a "bike" there are thousands for sale around me. But the more specific I want, the fewer there are, and the further I've got to travel to get it.
So, what matters to you? Do you put a lot of stock into having a new bike/car/etc? Is it important that it all be optioned exactly as you want? Do you get spooked about reliability with an older machine, especially one you don't know the maintenance and care history of?
