Default Road King motor swap

Hello,
first off i have a 2004 road king and 2002 fatboy with a built motor. i am just trying to see if i can take parts off the fatboy and put them on my 2004 road king. both have the 88ci motors just the fatboy has a 95 hot kit on it. the fatboy is totaled and want to make my road king faster. is this possible?

I’m pretty sure the top ends should swap out no problem. The bottom ends are different though, the softail has a balanced crank. I don’t know if there is any reason it wouldn’t work though.

Good luck!

Top ends are the same, Softails have the counterbalanced solid mount engines while Touring and Dyna are non counterbalanced rubber mounted. Depending on how many miles are on the 95 and how much wear is present, you might be better off going bigger with new parts. Either way you'll need to have it tuned.

You say you have a 'built motor'. Do you know who built it and what the actual mods are? Quite likely it has aftermarket cams, could even have a modified crank. If you know who they are I suggest you contact the shop who did the build and ask advice. If the FB engine is undamaged it may be worth selling as is, to fund improving your RK.

If I were looking to improve performance and my only option was to R&R the top end off another bike that was totaled; I'd wait until I was able to do it right. That's a lot of work to half *** something (not to mention the cost of gaskets & incidentals). Sell the B motor and part the totaled bike, then use the money to do the Road King correctly.
