Hi everyone, I sold my 2006 Road King and ended up buying a 2004 Fatboy. The handling on the Fatboy seems totally different than the handling on the road king. How can I describe it? It seems that your steering inputs have a quicker effect, if that makes sense. When you turn ithe bike at low speeds it almost feels like the wheel/handlebar is turning itself toward the direction of the turn, kind; it really threw me off when I first rode it. The King seemed more neutral, or maybe I am just use to it. I am getting use to it and I feel much more in control the more I ride it, I guess it is just a function of time. I was wondering if there are any converts here that noticed a handling difference when they first switched over.
I love the Fatboy though, it looks great, and suits my riding better than the Road King.
That's a little backwards. I've got an '05 fatboy and I'm thinking making my next ride the road king. Why the change from a newer ride to the older one? I love my Fatboy, though. Lots of stuff available for them, too. I just got some chrome parts from a chrome exchange shop called www.chromethathog.com. Great quality and prices so I went back for more. I've gotten rims, calipers, and a swingarm. When you start changing your's around, talk to dave. Tell them I sent you. ;-) NO I HAVE NO RELATIONSHIP WITH THESE GUYS EXCEPT AS A CUSTOMER.
I hear where you're coming from. When I sold the Road King I did not have the intentions of buying another cruiser, I bought a used Ducati for the track mostly and a KTM Supermoto for around town, the KTM by the way ROCKS!!!. But I found myself missing the cruiser more than I thought I would; so I was looking for a used bike that fit my riding style better, I only do longer miles a handful of times a year, and longer only being 200 - 250 miles a day, so not much, so thus the 04 Fatboy comes into the picture.
I think the softails have a lower center of gravity. You sit more 'in' the bike than 'on' the bike. Rake/trail may have something to do with it as well. I've never ridden a King so I can't say for sure.
