I've looked around (quite a bit) and have been unable to find any real info on this idea. It's almost like NOBODY does it. I bought an '03 Electra Glide Standard about a year ago. Inside the fairing is a ridiculous bird's nest of wires and the radio that is in it is an aftermarket car radio that is not weather proof. It came with a weather cover and after many close calls the weather cover did not survive the Harley shake and rough roads. I'm afraid this radio is going to end up frying my wiring. I never listen to it. If I'm even riding far enough to listen to music, I do it via Pandora and BT headphones that block the wind from my ears.
I want to delete the radio and not have a huge hole in my dash, but also not have it look like some redneck (that's me) half-*** DIY'd some crazy in there either. Has anyone ever seen kits or replacements for this? Has anyone DIY'd it without a kit and had it come out looking nice? What are your ideas for replacing it? I've considered having someone make a fiberglass insert or cover for it that I could mount my phone and a charging port on. Whatch'all think?
The current radio is mounted in some kind of insert that I now believe might be the original glovebox. Maybe I could just add this door to it with a barrel lock and mount my phone and a charging port to the door.
Maybe look for a Electra Glide standard fairing from that model era, because as I recall they did not come with a radio. go to ronnies Hd web site and do a search for the inner fairing part number and then search Ebay for any results. It's a older bike so don't hold your breath. You may have to do the redneck fix after all.
If you page down the page on the EGlideGoodies site they also have the box GB286 that the door GD3 mounts to. Not sure if it is for your fairing. ->http://www.eglidegoodies.com/id235.html

If the glove box is butchered from the radio install, I have one that I removed from my 04 shortly after purchase, still looks new, free for the asking.

I thank you for the offer. I'm off the island right now and won't fly back in until Saturday. Let me get another look (old man memory) at what I got when I get home. I may very well take you up on that, but I hate to ask you to go to the trouble if I don't need it.
