Default SERT related question

Was on a trip last week and my security system failed about 400 miles from home and had to be taken out as the fob and code wouldn't work. Dealership I took it to said the secutity module was bad and removed it. When they were done I started the bike and the check engine light came on after I started it. They came out and plugged into the ECM and did a reflash and the check engine light went off. Bike ran great. Question I have is...I have a SERT installed. After I got almost home I realized...man I didn't tell them. I didn't have the race tuner with me anyway. When they plugged in would they have known I had a SERT installed by reading the numbers? Do you think they re-flashed a standard calibration rather than the map that was used when I installed my Samson slip ons? I'm taking the bike to my dealer tomorrow and taking the SERT. Should I have them do a reflash? My bike ran fine with no problems.

The reflash would have replaced the map that was loaded with your sert. If this was a custom map and you don't have a backup then contact the tuner and see if he has your map on file. If it was a canned map it will need to be reloaded.

Just talking out my ***, but if they actually did a reflash it may or may not have encompassed the fuel/timing maps. I'm wondering if that's even what they did.

The "check engine" light coming on for a moment like that indicates there are error codes stored in the ECM, doesn't it? You can push/hold the tripmeter button while powering up the bike, read and reset any codes present. I'm thinking they probably just hooked the computer up to the data link on the bike and looked at the more detailed version of error report and then reset it/them that way. Probably that and instructed the ECM that the security system is no longer installed so "don't complain about it any more".

I really doubt they did (would hope they wouldn't, at any rate) a total reflash of the ECM. As I understand it, anyway, there's no way to read the values in the fuel/timing maps from the ECM so the advice to send your custom mapping to it once again is well worth following just to be safe.

Thanks LDrider. That's what I figured but wasn't sure. It is a canned map that was put in with my SERT. I did ride the bike about a 1000 miles on the rest of our trip with whatever he reprogrammed.. The bike ran fine. I'll bet you're right glens. I don't think the bike would have run as good as it did or even at all if they did a total reflash.

I called them and glens you were right. They just took care of the error code they were getting when they took the security module out. They had to put a different TSM in to get the turn signals to work without the security module in there. I am assuming that's why the engine light was coming on telling me something wasn't like it was before.
