Anyone have Avon Cobras on your Harley? I keep reading that they grip very good in the curves. I like a softer rubber as long that the milage is decent. I would give up some milage to get a softer ride. What say you that have had them.
I have a set of them on my Harley Ultra. If your not interested in getting every last mile you can out of a set of tires they are great. Ride and handle fantastic on wet or dry roads.
Quite too.. I replace motorcycle tires
around 9 -10k usually. New Cobra Chrome models are out, they should get better mileage. This is the second set of Avon's I have owned and will definitely not be the last.
i had replaced my dunlop american elites with cobra chromes and thought they were fantastic. unfortunately, i cannot speak to longevity as the bike was totaled with less than 5k on the tires. but up until that point, they still looked new. when it's time to replace these tires on my new ride, i will be going with chromes again.
Another fan of Avon Tyers. The last set on my Heritage I got 15k out of the rear and 18k on front. That's the best I ever got on that bike, a 96 FLSTN. My Road King I ride a bit hard and usually can't get more than 12k on the rear and usually change the front the following year after I'm on my second rear tire. Mileage is not that important to me as much as grip on the road during a rain event. I haven't found anything yet that I like better.
I've always been a Commander 2 guy, let's face it...most anything is better than OEM dunlops.
But as I approach 9K on my limited, I'm really thinking about Avon Chrome. I have zero issue replacing shoes every 10K miles for a safe and predictable ride especially if you get caught in a little rain.
Depends on what you consider "small sharp bumps". Good suspension is also a factor. I have the non-Chrome Avons on my King and they are smooth runners to begin with. I have Ohlins in back and can't feel small bumps. I've gone coast-to-coast on these and have gone through various weather conditions and they performed great. I will be getting the Avon Chromes on the next tire change.
Just be aware, Avon recommends a slightly higher psi than the OEM tires.
