Try a high quality or brighter H4 bulb first. If your going LED, I'd suggest you change the whole assembly instead of just the bulb. The reflectors inside the H4 lens may or may not give you a good pattern with an LED bulb in it. It may be brighter but is the beam focused in the right place. The bulb and reflectors need to work together.
After catching a few rocks I got tired of spending a ton of money on replacements and use Sylvania Silverstar sealed beam assembly you can get at any auto parts store for less than $30. Very happy with it and don't get upset when it takes a rock.
