amp
Mack, thar ain't 'nuff bandwidth fer a detailed explanation, so tell me why you're wantin' ta know an' let's see if we kin go from thar.
Essentially, ampere (amp) is the unit of measure for electrical CURRENT - it's the expression of the power potential of an item. Voltage is the amount of electricity, amperage is the strength of that electricity. That's why 110 volts from a wall outlet usually won't kill you - but a high-amperage 12 or 24 volt battery CAN. The 110 will have a 15-20 breaker on it - the battery can easily have in excess of 100 amps.
