I know HD upgraded the touring frame in 09 but just heard today, that it was lengthened. If this is the case, where did the length go? Did it give more pass seat room, or was it engine room, or rake change?
They stretched the Wheebase and changed the rake. I think they changed how the frame assembled with less parts. The old chassis used 90 some parts vs the 40 or so parts today. The stiffness is where most feel the changes. The wider swingarm and rear tire noticeably effect the handling.
The seats did change but I had thought that was because of the larger fuel tank not the frame. Other than that I don't think that any of the changes effect passenger or rider room much. The Rushmore's changed the rear frame section so the same seat that fits both sits or feels like it does sit differently on the 09-13's than it does on the 14-16's. The same seat on my 2010 feels like you're in the bike more than on the newer models where you feel more on top of the bike.
Both 2008 and 2009 touring models have the same 63.5 wheel base.
The 08's were a bastard child of sorts. mixes of old a newer parts like the larger fuel tank.
The 2007 wheel base is listed at 63.5 inches while the newer models listed at 64.3 in
I doubt it. After jimglassford's post I looked and 2007, 2009, and 2011 all show 63.5" wheelbase. So does the 2014. So what lengthened? I get the larger tank, is the tank wider, or longer or taller, or all the above?

Funny all the different numbers. The HD website for 2020 Ultras says 94" even. So it SOUNDS like, after reading the article, that the engine compartment was shortened (my guessing) allowing the swingarm to be lengthened without changing the overall wheelbase much, (1/2").
What size are the old rear tires? New is said to be 180.
