I recently installed one on mine. I don't think it afects the engine much, but it makes a bit of a difference on the wind blowing up along the sides of the tank. Reduces hot wind hitting your face from below.

Yes it's the one.
Yes you will want to chase the threads first with a 1/4-20 tap.
Install is easy afterwards.
5 minutes tops with the tap and wrench.
Now that I have one , I won't be taking it off.
