I'm just wondering if I'm on the right track here. Once the bike is warmed up and I'm tooling around on it, if I quick punch the throttle and then let off I can hear a rattle that sounds like a nut or something rolling around in my primary. I don't think it is the compensator because that would be more like a knocking up front. It actually sounds like the noise is coming from the area of the rear lever of the gear shift linkage down on the primary side of the tranny gears. Could this be the chain needs adjusting? Every time I do a primary fluid change I check the tension with the Liot tension tool and it is within spec. This just started occuring.
I just checked tension about 400 miles ago when I did a primary fluid change. I think I might check it again before I take it out to Sturgis. Gotta go through the whole bike anyway to make sure things are copasetic
I got a bad tank of gas a few months ago and experienced the same thing. It sounds like pea-gravel bouncing off of the bottom of the frame as you roll on the throttle.
Change gas stations if you think they have bad premium gas. I've found some of the rural stations in my area just don't sell enough premium to keep it from going bad. That, or they have water/contamination in their premium tank. Switching stationscan sometimes make a difference.Another thing which will make it ping is lugging the motor. Make sure you are not in too high of a gear for the speed and amount of throttle you are rolling on.
I had a rattle that just appeared on my eglide that sounded similar to what you are describing I pulled my baffles out and then put them back in and noise has disappeared.

Yeah, that's another thing that I have to do.....I have a rattling baffle. Just gonna replace them.
Adjusted the tension on the chain and that appeared to take care of it. Time will tell. Next question.....I know that the tensioner shoe wears a lot better than cam shoe tensioners, but how much grooving do I allow before I change that one out? Anyone got pics of wear on a primary chain tensioner shoe that was in need of changing?
