The OP has a Limited, all he needs to do is plug in his headset, not a WHIM or have dealer do anything....and what I'm guessing the issue is at this point is set up the PHONE not the radio.
On your iPhone go to Settings > General > CarPlay > Make sure Boom! Box GTS is showing > Then toggle on Allow CarPlay While Locked.
The go into Bluetooth > Boom! (TM) Box GTS Tap the (i) and toggle on Show Notifications, Sync Contacts. Also check Phone Favorites, Phone Recent, and All Contacts for everything else related to your phone to work.
And OP CarPlay on your bike DOES work like every other car and truck. The thing your forgetting is a car and a truck has a mic.....you're just not putting it on your head.
By the way OP...are you sure the lightning cable you are using is a Sync/Charge cable. Some cheap cables are charge only and that will also prevent CarPlay from working as well. Try a different lightning cable. I always forget about this.

Bold is not true. In both my car and Truck apple carplay come up every time my phone is plugged in. On the bike some times it does some times it does not. Can be riding the bike using CarPlay and maps. Stop for gas, restart and it will not come up. turn head set off and on it may or may not come up, unplug phone and plug back in, again may or may not come up. Shut bike off again for two minutes and it usually comes up. Never have those issues in my car or truck. Of course I can make and receive phone calls in my car and truck, not possible on the bike because I have an iPhone 11Pro.
Yes my CVO has WHIM. Yes I have phone paired to bike and 30K paired to bike. Phone is not paired to head set.
I heard harley has new GTS software out to fix the iPhone 11 Pro issues, I will soon find out if after 7 months they have fixed it.

I guaranty you it works every time. I know exactly what youre talking about. Mine will also do what you are talking about. Some times the radio has to cycle and recognize the phone is plugged in before it comes up, takes a few seconds but it WILL come up. Next time it does it just let it be and it will come up.
for you craig it might. but aren't using a wired headset? i know exactly what dave is talking about, it happens to my wife sometimes. what we have to do is to go into the 'wireless headset setup' screen in the boom, and it will show the sena 30k as 'idle'. we have to 'forget' this pairing, and the re-pair the 30k to the boom audio. then, CarPlay will show up and everything will work fine.

I am. Wired > Wireless. LOL. I have a helmet problem. I have 7 right now. Thats part of the reason I use wired headsets. I can get em for next to nothing cause cats are going wireless and dumping them all the time.

I have had it not come up on group rides when leaving gas stations, was up prior to gas stop. Didn't come up, rode 120 miles, never did come back up. Then we stopped for lunch, I never touched the phone, and after lunch it came up fine.
So I fully disagree. It does not work every time. I have put 5000 miles on my bike in the last four weeks. I know exactly how it sometimes works and some times doesn't. Yes, I have changed lightning cables to make sure it wasn't issue. I have 27600 miles on my 19. Pretty sure I know it doesn't work every time like my truck or car does.
