I have a 2020 with the GTS Infotainment system. I have followed the directions below to set-up Car play from the manual, but no icon shows up. Phone does connect, because the display shows no media message. Any suggestions?
Apple CarPlay does not require an app download. When connected, not all iPhone apps will be displayed on the screen, only Apple approved apps.
The rider requires a headset with microphone to enable voice commands. 1. Switch power to Accessory, Ignition or Run (CVO).
2. Turn projection mode on.
a. Navigate: Home > Setup.
b. Select: Projection Mode ON.
3. Connect: Cord between phone and USB port on vehicle. The CarPlay icon replaces phone icon on the home page.
4. See Figure 1. Select: CarPlay.
5. See Figure 2. Apple CarPlay is now visible on the radio screen.
is your gts straight off the showroom floor? or did you have a whim installed? if you don't have the whim, or have your bike flashed for the whim (with mic disabled), you will not get apple CarPlay.
you didn't answer my question, do you have the whim installed?
sometimes, CarPlay is finicky. my wife will have problems with CarPlay coming up, even when she has turned her headset on first. when that happens, she has to go into her settings, pull up wireless headset settings, manage rider, and then it'll show her headset as 'idle'. she will 'forget' it at that point, and go through the pairing procedure. when it pairs, it will allow CarPlay to initialize.
So it sound like I have to have a headset plugged in, but that did not work. I as going to ask about the flashing at my next service. Thanks All.
The key to your issue is getting the WHIM Enabled setting turned on via the Digital Technician system at your dealership. A headset is NOT required to get CarPlay audio output functionality (music, navigation prompts, text message output) working at your fairing speakers. A headset IS required to be able to listen to audio with speakers in your helmet, use SIRI voice commands, send/receive phone calls and record/send text messages, etc. A WHIM with connected HD brand SENA wireless headset simply allows all the same functionality of a HD corded headset to occur without the wires.

So sorry. No WHIM installed. I would have expected car play to work as it does in every other car or truck. Simply plug it in and the apple icons appear. It should not be so convoluted. Thanks!

No WHIM installed. So Car play does not work unless you install the WHIM module? I would expect to simply plug in the iPhone and Car play would vitiate and show the apple icons as it does with every other car or truck. Why would HD be any different. Thanks!
