Has your bike got any mods away from stock, such as a change of handlebars, added lights, etc? Such things are often a source of unwanted electrical issues. Don't get distracted to the security system until you have some concrete proof it is in the loop!
Previous owner put on 12" apes but only other mods are audio, exhaust, air filter and tuner. I suppose the bar change could be a culprit buts it's never just affected one side. It's always both turn signals and both front and rear and 4 ways. And as I sit here and think more about it after the other users post, it certainly seems to only happen when the bike is moved without the fob.
My 2010 FLHTK did the exact same thing if I moved it around without the fob. Next time I would start no turn signals working. Simple shut it off turn back on and good to go. Maybe they don't all do that but mine did and wasn't a problem once I realized it. Scenario like this back out of garage [not running] go to start and nothing oops forgot fob and realizing turn signals are flashing so get fob turn on start try turn signals =not working- shut off restart all good
Same thing happened to me. I was messing around with the bike, no fob, got the security system activated (signals flashing) then went for a ride and no turn signals. I thought oh no, but when I got home and restarted the bike everything back to normal and has been since.
Update I have the custom dynamics brake light / signal light flasher unit on the bike - it works flawlessly.
Just another point on the security system. I was parked next a pickup last year and when I came back to start the bike it was no start, nada, nothing would make it go. I start walking the bike to an independent shop a block away get about 15 yards, stop and try again and it fires up no problem. Once at a gas station I fill up, no start, no nothing. A vehicle moves away and starts no problem. The security system seems to have some interesting idiosyncrasies.
Moral of the story is don't park near the dodgey vehicles???
