2011 FLHTCU
Can someone tell me if it is normal for the security system to cause a no turn signal issue?
I haven't quite narrowed down the exact scenarios that cause this but once in a while I will start the bike and find out the turn signals will not activate unless I shut it down and restart. They always work after the restart. Only two things I can recall happening prior to this issue occurring and that's having the battery disconnected and/or maxi fuse pulled, and turning the bike on but not starting without the fob nearby. I'm only guessing at that last one. Can it even turn on without the fob present?
Are one or both of those scenarios the cause or do I need to dig further?
Check your codes in the TSM. I bet there's something like an 1121, 1122, 1126 or something.
I have not seen those codes. I did have other codes related to my abs and O2 sensors. But those are/have been explained and resolved. Nothing related to the turn signals though and that issue has been occurring randomly prior to and after the other issues. I have not checked the codes right when the issue occurs which I will next time.
yes, it will turn on, you just won't get any power to your starter circuit.
yes, you need to dig further. good luck.
So much for hoping it wasn't something to worry about. Thanks for the input. I will start by waiting for it to happen again and look for codes right then.
My 2010 FLHTK did the exact same thing if I moved it around without the fob. Next time I would start no turn signals working. Simple shut it off turn back on and good to go. Maybe they don't all do that but mine did and wasn't a problem once I realized it. Scenario like this back out of garage [not running] go to start and nothing oops forgot fob and realizing turn signals are flashing so get fob turn on start try turn signals =not working- shut off restart all good

OK I have a third scenario and that's exactly it. Wonder why that effects the turn signals.
Has your bike got any mods away from stock, such as a change of handlebars, added lights, etc? Such things are often a source of unwanted electrical issues. Don't get distracted to the security system until you have some concrete proof it is in the loop!
