I did the Sunshine Skyway at almost a buck on a rented Sporty; the one from the 90s with the dual plug head & racing logo on the tank, but the scariest bridge I've ever crossed had no name...it is part of I95 just north of Miami, where a single lane goes WAY high up & you know if you screw up just a tad, you're getting a flying lesson.
I'd rather ride any open grate bridge than having to cross up the milled 4-5" blacktop edge on an interstate in traffic in the rain! Been there done that don't wanna do it again!!
Crossing the Brookport bridge into Paducah Kentucky. Crap, that grate surface makes your bike get squirrely under your butt. The front wheel darts side to side as it goes from one row of grates to the next, a good 6". It is a tall bridge but heights do not bother me at all due to being a rock climber in my early years. That damn grate. You catch yourself staring at the rails and on coming cars praying the grate takes you away from the impending obstacle. That damn grate. If you have rode on a grooved highway before it is like that but 100 times worse.
I will never cross that sucker on my bike again.
Any one else crossed the demon bridge?
Ha! We crossed the bridge a week ago Saturday. We stayed in Paducah after a long day coming down from IL, and dodging a freakin' tornado in MO. You guys are crazy to live in twister country!
Anyhow, after that long day, that bridge was the icing on the cake. It was definitely a bit weird when you looked down. I have crossed grate bridges many times, I just kinda let the bike do it's thing, and look forward. Squirrely ***** for sure!

I haven't crossed a bridge like that in years but when I did I remember how crazy it felt.
I've been over that bridge a few times on a bike. The curve is interesting.
Almost crossed it once in my pickup truck during an ice storm. Decided to go around it instead. That's a long way around but there's no way I was going to cross it with it covered in ice.
The Cannonball Bridge in St Francisville IL is also a real treat to cross. Several YouTube videos on that one.
Yep ... bridges with grating are exhilarating and can be fun ... Relax a bit and give up the "death grip" and it's a bit more enjoyable... As others have mentioned the Mackinaw Bridge is one to consider ... During Holiday Traffic it's not uncommon to have to come to a stop and if you are on the grating and happen to be lucky enough to have a ship crossing under you can then appreciate just how far the bridge can "sway" it's pretty impressive
