Default Prepaid Maint. BS

I wanna see if you guys feel the same way I do about this...When I bought my EGC, the dealer suggested the prepaid maintanence package to me which I without a thought said, "Nothanks". I can buy a service manual and do that myself. I stopped there yesterday to arrange for first service (I will let them do that one) and the guy in service brought the prepaid thing to me and I once again said, "no thanks". He said I could drop it off today and I said cool and how long did he guess they'd have her, and he said I should have her back Friday! I think that's a little long but ok. So I go in today to hand her over, he says the 1000K service is $299, I said ok. Then he brings up the prepaid deal and I politely said "no thanks". Then he tells me one of the benefits to having the prepaid maint. is they make your service "priority" over everyone else, so if I bring in my bike on Mon I'll have it back on Wed instead of Fri. Did he seriously say that to my face? So I'm paying $300 for your services which you took your sweet a$$ time doing, cause I'm not a "priority" to youcause you couldn't grease me enough to buy your maint package??? I think that's a load of BS andI wanna know if anyone else feels the same way I do.... [:@]

I couldn't agree more. I'm not sure if they realize it or not but I take that sh*t as a serious insult. To be completely honest though, aside from the warranty stuff, I'm not impressed with the servise at all. For one thing, it seems like everytime I bring my bike in for something, I find a new scratch or a ding. When I brought it in for a rear tire replacement I made sure I cleaned and inspected the rim before I brought it in. I told the punk that wrote up the servise slip that there were no f*ckin scratches on my rim and I wanted to get the bike back the same way. When I go to pick the bike up I tried to look the rim over as good as possible and it looked okay with the exception of all the finger prints and smudges. Wouldn't you know when I'm detailing my bike, sure enough I find a nice f*ckin scratch in my rim ($400 Profile rim). I knew that brining it back wouldn't get me sh*t so I just figure, I aint going back to them for nothing again.
Sometimes it seems like the service techs are Jiffy Lube rejects anyway.

Dealers try to rope you into coming to them for service work at high prices with low paid school kids hacking at your bike.
They try to rape you every-way they can. They have poor service turnaround times with very poor workmanship.
If they damage it, it`s OH well sorry.
No way would I ever consider taking my bike to them for anything.........[&:]
PrePaid just attaches the string to you, your walletand your bike. Then they try to sell you stuff you don't need on top of your prepaid service work.

Default Good deal as far as I'm concerned

I bought the maintenance contract good for three years. Valuewise for me it is a good deal. If you prefer to do your own maintenance or put low mileage on your bike that's something else. Personally, maintenance is too much like work. I like to ride. I've put 12,500 miles on my bike in the first six months I've owned it. At that rate I'll save a lot of money on maintenance. On a recent road trip I had my 10K service done in Memphis, (Southern Thunder HD). I dropped the bike off at the dealer in the morning. The dealer drove me to Graceland where I spent the day with Elvis. They picked me up when I called and my bike was washed, serviced and waiting for me. I love HD dealers.

I bought the three year plan with my Ultra in Oct. of 2005. I now have 25,000 miles on her with service done every 2500. THEY pay to service my bike...I paid 2000.00 and already have had over 3000.00 in value...worth it to me..

Wifes bike is different..she doesn't rack up the mioles...so I have it done by an independant friend...

What a notion...you paid $2000 for them to do what would cost you $500 in material and some time with your bike.

Somehow...I just don't get this.

If its not a warrenty issue, its me who will be doing the work. I won't let the hacks at the local dealer touch my bike, unless I have too.

When you are mistreated by a dealership for any reason you should discuss it with the owner. Sometimes that makes a difference, if it is the owner or his actual personal policy that offends you find a new dealer, Speaking to the owner directly made a huge difference for me and before that I was so angry at his dealership I did not step foot in his store for almost 10 years. having said that,As far as the prepaid maintenance goesif you put a lot of miles on your bike and are not capable of or willing to do your own routine maintenance it can be a fair deal. It is far better if you learn the basic maintenence skills so if you have a problem on the road you at least know your way around the bike to try to get upand going. As far as the preferential treatment when you have the plan, it ain't right ...discuss it with the owner. But...... at some theme parks like Disney World in FL you can actually pay extra to get a front of the line pass...That REALLY ain't right........Hmmmm.. come to think of it , some dealerships ARE just a Harley Davidson theme park. One thing for sure if you call the MOCO they will be quick to tell you they have no control over the dealer as they are independently owned. So the saga continues............

I had the pre-paid maintenance on a 05 Dyna wide glide 5300 miles when traded. Went to trade it in for the EGC I have now and found out that pre-paid is not transferable to the next bike you buy. So total I paid $2300, got the 1k, 2.5K and 5K done (est. $300 each) thats $900, where did my other $1400 go??? I know where it went...right into the stealers pocket for Sturgis. It was a bum deal and I will never do it again. Pay as I go or maybe one day when I can turn wrenches better, I will do it myself. Have a great day! Remi
