I have a 2010 EG Classic. It had a bad Comp from the factory with the classic bang on some startups. At 6,000 Miles I replaced it with the SE version. All was fine until at 16,000 miles the bang came back. I took it to the dealer and the mechanic said he put a shim in and all was fine again. now at 27,000 the bang is back when the bike is restarted hot.
Also my battery is 4 yrs, 1 month old and I have been noticing a short hesitation at startup for a few months BUT if I put the battery on the charger for a day or so and then remove it the startup is instantaneous.
Tonight I took the charger off, the bike started up with gusto. I went for a short ride to heat it up, came home, shut the bike off, waited about 5 minutes, started it up and heard the compensator bang.
pulled it in the garage, put the charger on the battery, the bike started perfectly, no bang.
Is it possible a weak battery can cause the compensator to bang or do you think it's time for another compensator?
I quit reading when the guy said, "put a shim in it"
The Harley mechanic did put a shim in it at 16,000 miles, so he told me. And they charged me for it too!! Whatever he did worked until now at 27,000 miles.

Of course they charge you. Seems like he gave you a 11,000 mile answer!
Had similar symptoms on my 16. When really hot it was normal for it to not start at all. Let it sit and cool down a bit and it would fire right up. Battery was older too, didn't do great on load test but good enough. Removed the comp and went with a solid sprocket, zero issues since then and fires up every time.
