Default Fairing insert - switch cap

So I’m not exactly sure what is stripped or broken but I think I have an idea and I’m not too thrilled...So I’m looking for some expertise and advice hopefully.

So this bolt holding the right side of the lower inner fairing switch cover is just spinning and I can feel the nut on the backside spinning as well. I’m assuming this nut was/is held in place by a plastic tab that has since broken off or the actual nut was glued/fixed to the inner fairing which has since come off.

What options do I have here to be able to get this bolt out without destroying either the Lower inner fairing switch cover or the entire inner fairing itself?

I need to get this cover off since I was planning to do a fork oil change this weekend and do some planning for a future handlebar install...but that’s changed.

2007 Electra Glide by the way.

thanks in advance!

If you are talking about the small screw on top, the nut is captured in a slot in the plastic inner fairing. It's probably over tight and causing the nut to slip in the slot. If you take off the outer fairing, which is easy with only 7 small bolts you should be able to get to the nut and hold it with pliers.

Yep it’s the single small screw on top, the one holding the switch panel on that’s just spinning. I’ll try taking off the outer fairing to see if I can get something on the nut to hold it.

And yes, I can feel the nut spinning on the backside with my finger, I just can’t get anything on it to hold it so the screw will come out. It’s at such a weird and hard to get to spot down under the radio and up in behind the top of the forks.

The front outer fairing is off and I can see where the nut is spinning in the inner fairing plastic well, but the slot opening for the nut is facing back toward the back of the bike. I don’t see now getting a pair of pliers or even a box or open wrench on it would be possible. I hate to have to cut off the switch panel and sacrifice it to get better access to the nut to be able to remove it but I don’t see any other way.

Anyone else been here with this issue that can offer some advice or guidance?

Thanks in advance!

Here is a better picture of the spinning nut (circled in red on an uninstalled fairing) that I’m dealing with behind the screw holding on the lower inner fairing switch cap.

Can’t figure out how in the world to get ahold of it to remove the screw from the outside without destroying the lower inner fairing cap!

You need to take another pic, and tap on the screen where the nut is. That will make it focus on that spot. Hard to see exactly what the issue is. Can you stick a flat blade screwdriver in there to hold the nut?

Don’t know if I can get a picture of the nut spinning on the backside, too tight in there. I’ll see about moving some wires around to get a better look. I can feel the nut spinning with my finger when I turn the bolt and in looking at the stock picture above the nut fits in from the back of the bike and no I can’t get a flat head screw driver or pliers on it enough to hold it from spinning while I try and remove the outer screw.
