I was not impressed with the quality of my LRS on my Road Glide. The fitment was very poor on the edges, almost 3/4" short on each side, the edges of the shield were rough, the shield scratches easily, and they forgot to ship half my order. I called, they were supposed to refund the portion not sent, they didn't, but it wasn't much money and I just gave up on the company. I left a review stating all this, the new owners have removed all negative reviews; convenient of them, eh? When I bought my shield, the pricing was almost half of what they charge now. At their current pricing, I would personally look elsewhere.

Check out FREEDOM SHIELDS.....they'll be more than happy to talk to you on the phone, have a very fair return policy and decent prices (mention this Forum). They also sell most of their touring shields in 1" increments, which is very convenient for a great fit.

No, actually you wouldn't. If you read their policy, once you remove the plastic, you own it, no matter what the defect. Problem is, the plastic mine came in was 3 times larger than it needed to be, and had wrinkles and folds everywhere. So much so that there was no way you could even remotely guess what the shield looked like.

Once I removed it, the distortion was horrific. Sent 4-5 emails to them, and the only reply was to quote their return policy. I will never buy one of their products again.

OP
Nothing you can do about the face of your shield, but as mentioned, it can be sanded down to look like it was supposed to look. Start with about 100 grit paper, with a sanding block, and work your way to 220 or so. Its like making sour lemonade from rotten lemons, but its yours now, unfortunately.

Oh yes, AFTER my issue with LRS, I wrote Freedom, and they sent me a pic of one of their recurve shields, ready to ship. The plastic they cover with makes it real easy to see the quality through it.

I had good luck with LRS prior to the ownership changes AND when they had sales and codes for up to 60% off. I had several and at the price it was nice to test/pick and choose what worked.
Since their prices are higher now, I went freedom shield as well.
I can tell you the thickness and finish on the Freedom is leap years better than LRS and that was the old LRS shields I had. I gave one to a buddy from my old stock and it is noticeably different.

The mirror polished edge on the FS is a work of art and NO distortion at all.

I had 2 of the damn things. Both cracked at the mounting holes (and not from over tightening). They refused to replace. Screw them.

this is a sad thread. i had a LRS on my electra glide and I was always bragging on it. it was such a nice well made shield. I was looking at a mako for my road glide and found this thread. after seeing what everyone has said, i'm pretty let down but glad i foudn this before i gave them my money. guess i'm going with a freedom shield.

Cleaning up the rough edge is simple, super fine sandpaper will make it smooth as butter.

.
That was not my experience a couple of months ago. When I had a very small flaw, one that was hardly noticeable on the lower edge, they replaced it immediately. I had no problem contacting them, and once they received the picture of the flaw they called me to tell me a new one was on the way. That was all on the same day. The new one was overnighted and it was perfect. I was worried about the statement of removing the plastic, that has to do with fitment only.
I wouldn’t hesitate to buy from them again.
