Default Install Saddlebag Guards

Ok fellas.... I sit here looking out one eye, had cataract surgery today and eyesight is suffering a bit today. But I have a question regarding install of saddlebag guards on my Street Glide. I have the 49282-09B guard and lower support. This is to fit the 2009-2013 FLHX (SG) I will try to attach pic of the kit. But to look at the instructions, the lower support bar that comes with the kit is not the same as what is shown on the install instruction. I have done searches, and have found some confusing information. If you look at the install pic, item 7/8 is shown as part of the kit. It is rather obvious that the kit does not show that part. I have seen some who said that we need to buy another replacement support to install, why this is not included at purchase is beyond me. Others have said they cut the original support and welded to guard bar. Has anyone ever bought the kit (49282) and install successfully? Do I need to find these other supports? Any suggestions??/
Sorry...the tiny picture at the bottom shows the kit...the two black bars are supposed to go in the place of item 7/8 in the instructions.

Part number 2 is your new front guard, which it has a lower socket for the new 7-8 to fit into in the lower back side of that socket.

so these parts in your lower photo above, will replace part #D that does not use the front guard front bar #2 instead.

So below would be part #2 in play with just the front guards (kind of at least).

Now if you want lower side bagger guards as well, may or may not work with the front guard bar isntead.

Hence some after markets have a front split channel front ends that will just clamp round the front guards bar,

While some others will need the front guard with with the channels pre-drilled isntead.

So if your looking at both front and lower side guards, then make sure that the front guard you have selected, works with the new lower side guards as well.

I have the guard and lower support.... as per the lower pic....the back side of the support is what does not make sense.... I can see where it attaches, but then the removal of part D will remove the rear bag mount and antenna mount. The lower support in the kit only goes back to where 7/8 makes the bend to attach to the rear mounting bracket. The upper portion is not part of the kit. Which is where my problem lies.....

I took a look at my 13 King and the lower support pictured in the install instructions you have is what is on my King. The lower pic you mentioned is for the Rushmore models bikes, so I suspect you have the newer kit.

Out of the P&A catalog and online hd parts website, there are two versions...one for 09-13 and one for 14-20. This is the right kit for my bike, just something really stupid here..... either they are missing a crucial part in the kit, or they instructions are severely lacking in proper directions. The instruction pic does not show the lower support that comes with the kit. Nor does it say there are other parts required. Once I get cleared from my recent surgery, I'm heading to the harley dealer and see what they say. Just something not right here.....

It is showing the 2 different saddle bag bars. The lower is what you have on the bike & the upper is what you are replacing it with.

I understand that, but when you look up and purchase the guard kit, that is not what you get. You get the four basic pieces shown (2 guard bars, 2 support bars) yet the instructions show something completely different. Seems something is difinitely off here.... just trying to figure why you get one thing, then have to spend as much, if not more, to get the rest of the parts to complete the install?! I will continue to investigate until i am satisfied!!!

Hey Spartanden,

I recently installed this kit (49282-09B) on my 2009 Street Glide.
The installation went smooth and took me about an hour or so to do both sides.
All parts were included in the box, including item 7/8.
The picture you show at the bottom of your post is NOT the correct guards for a 09-13 Street Glides.
You re-use your saddlebag spring clips, and install the new antenna mount supplied using existing bolts.
The only issue I had was that it took 10 weeks to get it delivered from Harley to Canada!
If you have any question feel free to PM me.

Cheers, Terry

Could be you got a mixed up set. Instructions for the 09 - 13 set, but got the Rushmore parts. On part #2 in the instructions, does the top part of the bar have a bend? The 09 - 13 bar is straight and I think the Rushmore has the bend.

The only part you really need is #2. I have done this on 2 different bikes.
You can actually just cut the lower support bracket, As the cut end slides into the new guard. You have to drill one hole in the cut end and use 1/4-20 bolt to secure it to the guard. I used SS socket head bolts.
