Terry.... I have thick skin. No offense taken. I got my ***** up and took the die grinder and cut the ends of the support bars off right at the bend. Not enough material to seat between the guard and support for me. I have my aluminum bar, a sketch of what I need/want, and heading to the machine shop next week to have a couple of bars turned to bolt into the guard and to slide at least 3" into the support. I may or may not bolt this section into the support. Guards are on, saddlebags fit well, guards fit well, all is good. I will just feel better with a longer internal support pin (don't know what else to call it).... I'll try to remember to snap some pics when I finish this off.
Yes, buyer beware.... all is not how it seems! Parts books, pictures, descriptions, instructions, they all seem to tell different stories! I am happy with what I have. It did take some thought...but end result is what I wanted. Again, thanks to all who responded.

OK... let's see if I can do this.... I had two pins machined to fit in the guard and the support bracket. I got a couple of pictures I'm trying to add here.... so far, these work ok....The pins bolt into the guard, and are inserted up the support bar about 3 - 3.5 ". This will end my project.
