Appreciate there's a number of posts already on the topic but nothing really conclusive...so I'll try ask again, hoping in more clarity. I own a Road King 2009 and am considering to replace the gas cap with a custom cap which is only available as non-vented. Questions is, will that fit my bike or do I need to look for a vented cap?
If you run a non -vented the possibility is greater that the fuel won't flow from the tank to the engine. The vented opens atmosphere pressure allowing flow. Yes, vented cap.
I have no idea, but must ask the question, if we all have vented caps, why is there a vent line other than to dump fuel from an overly full tank and why won't that do the job? Won't a vented cap spew fuel that sloshes or expands from a hot engine?
In the meantime, the seller of the non-vented cap which I'm looking into, has come back to me and guaranteed that only carburated bikes need a vented cap...hence, the non-vented cap he is selling is perfectly fine for my injected Touring.........
If your cap is on the right side of the gas tank, you need a vented. If your gas cap is on the left side of your tank, it’s non vented. I believe your road king has it on the right side so vented. Check with dealer or on a reputable site like revzilla.
