Hi all , i have recently acquired a 2013 103ci electraglide ultra ...it seems to run very hot causing very low oil pressure when ticking over...it has stock air filter ..vance and hines pipes which are very loud ..the baffles have been removed by the sound of it...which i think makes it run lean causing the heat ...question is ? if i replace some form of baffle will this make my motor run richer therefore cooler....any help please ...im trying to avoid costly dyno and remap costs ... .bike as 18k on it .. i thought local tech could see live data but he says not... is it not possible to see live data and make changes with correct software.. Currently cleaning oil cooler and changing oil and filter ! looking at fans The rear cylinder is up to 400 f after short ride ambient being 80f which is cool i reckon by harley standards any body have any tips for richening mixture some how ..oil temp gauge on order.. ....
hate to say this but remap is your best bet... works wonders to cool those engines. and removing the cat seems to work wonders too (can't vouch for that mysef as I got mine already de-catted).
Id recommend measuring the oil temperature, after it comes up to temperature, to confirm how hot it really is. Use your wifes candy thermometer, or any long thermometer. nominal is typically 235 F.
The way to get the mixture richer is to get it tuned properly. A dyno tuning is ideal but with something like the Powervision you can run auto tune sessions and get it pretty good. Don't fall for the dealer download sales job. It's a canned map and will still be too lean.
Some kind of baffling will help it run better, not so much cooler but gaining back lost low end power. A good solution are thunder torque inserts from DK Customs., they work and sound great and are not spendy.
Getting rid of the cat will also be a big help in cooling things down.
An oil cooler or fan will help but to me it's more important to first get the tune right and eliminate the cat.
If you still have the O2 sensors installed, try a set of XIED's to richen the fuel mix, cooler internal combustion temps. Another way is getting atuner installed and programmed on you bike. Atuner that you can do various things with is the V&H FP3 tuner. If you have a smart phone ,install the app and do the tutorial on the app. you could also go the V&H web site and see if they still have the FP3 owner's manual in PDF format.
Hi i have ordered a set of xeids...also bigskyfans for back of oil cooler ....thanks for input ...seems everyone runs hot from what im reading...my primary is so hot i could cook on it..ive cleaned out my oil cooler fins removed cover that restricts air and in process of synthetic oil change/filter ...now waiting for fans to come from across the pond to uk ..cheers all! ill try post some readings ...but i agree dyno and remap maybe last resort ..not cheap here in blighty thanks to all for replies
