I'm very happy with my 08 Ultra. I've got 1600 miles on the speedo. Other than the heat, and I've added the "mid frameair deflectors" (code for heat shields), it's been an awesome ride. Rides betterthan the 06I traded in and has a lot morepower. Great ride!
Brewdog,
Looks like you have similar GPS unit I use, but I have the 2730 with xm radio built-in. For the power source, do you plug into cigeratte lighter of directly off battery? Also, are you using RAM mounts?
Engine is smooth once you move off idle. Idling, it jumps around like a worm in hot ashes. Harley did install another damper on the front cylinder head to help with this in '08. I just can't tell that it helps much.
It's been pretty well established by now that what they did was just relocate the "upper" engine locating link down to below the steering neck on the front frame downtubes.
Yes. On the 08 models due to the new fueltank size they relocated the upper link to the front head.[8D]

Ditto, and my other question would be, can you actually go anywhere and leave the bike parked without worrying constantly that all those electronics will be gone when you come back to the bike?
Could some of you 2008 touring owners provide us with some feedback on how your new bike is doing? Some of us potential buyers are wondering about: transmission noise, engine heat, ride comfort with the new IDS, throttle response, gas mileage, other comments, etc.
Thanks for the input!
The 07's and 08's have the same power plants IE: Engine, trany, primary
So how an 07 runs so should the 08's
Heck their all Harley's so you already know they will rattle, clank, whine, vibrate and shake with a little heat throwen in for good measure thats what all good Harley's do!
Not exactly true, several changes to 08s, new crank bearings, cams, ecm, ids system, different tuning maps too, also changes in the transmission and other parts. Someone posted the tech changes a week ago or so very interesting.

Cycleman, I use the same GPS set up as Brewdog is showing. Kuryakyn makes a nice chrome universal mirror mount that fits the handle bars. I bolted my ram ball thru the non-threaded mirror mount hole and use a 3 inch ram mount arm to attach to my Garmin 2610. (FYI.. the Ram ball base can be polished to a mirror like shine!) For the time being, I am using the cigarette plug in the fairing but be warned, if you crank the bars hard left, the plug will hit the tank! Only time I have had this happen was while wrestling the bike around in the garage. I mounted my GPS on the left side. Itis positioned so that I can still see the fuel gauge andnot cover the speaker. You can wrap the excess cord around the handle bar/clutch cable and it is almost invisible. My only disappointment is that I can't hear the GPS speakerwith it located in the cigarette plug.
If you ever buy a Harley and its not making any noises and runs really smooth.......HONDA HAS BOUGHT THE COMPANY!!!!!
Now there is the most truthful statement about Harley Davidson I've ever seen made on here!
People that say their 07 or 08 Ultras are smooth have never rode a Goldwing in their life! if they had rode a Goldwing they would know how bad their Harley shakes and vibrates!
A Harley is only smooth compared is anothers motorcycle that shakes and vibrates very badly. There is no smooth running Harleys, there is only some with slightly less shaking and vibration then others! thats what makes a Harley a Harley! Clanking, rattling, shaking, whining, vibration is called character"

Where is this information my friend, I would love to learn more facts about 08's compared to 07's ...
