Have a chance to buy a 2001 Road King Classic one owner with only four thousand miles on it it has been sitting for a while but when I turn the key the battery was fresh and it showed four thousand miles on the speedometer older owners say they haven't ridden it in years is a fuel injected model can buy a cheap yes or no
as others have said, the MM FI is the weak point, everything else can be repaired if it breaks,
When a MM bike has problems, it is easier to rip out the FI and put a carb and aftermarket ignition in it, but I have been told the ignition system conversion is hard to come by,
What is the bike worth as a clean trade ? Figure a 3 hole service, change the seals and fluid in the forks, hope the shocks work, 2 tires, brake pads, brake fluid flush and hopefully the brake hydraulics are good... about 1200 dollars to get it safe to ride... what is your pain point for risk?
Id buy it in a New York minute. My 2000 RKC has been rock solid from day one, no issues to this point. I did change the cam tensioners over to hydraulic, which is what Id be more concerned about if it were me. Other than normal maintenance items, the bike has needed nothing. Im guessing that doing a 3 hole oil change, brake fluid flush, new tires, new battery and a fresh tank of gas is most likely all that will be needed to begin enjoying that beauty.
