Default New Cams In!

So just got back from a test ride on my '02 TC88 that I've fitted Andrews 21s into....

Big smile :-D

Really bought the motor alive, and I feel like I am thrasing it less when pottering around too, really glad I did the upgrade.

Replaced the tensioner shoes whilst I was in there for the Cyco ones, both new bearings too, job well done.

I think I'll get her booked in for the the Dyno; does anyone with a carb'd TC88 have any suggestions for jets? Not sure what it has currently, but was already stage 1 (K&N + V&H slip ons)

Make sure the dyno operator is well versed in carb tuning.... That seems to be a dying skill.. EFI tuning, while very technical and requiring some skills/knowledge, is a totally different skill set. And there are a lot of dyno tuners who learned/experienced on EFI... but little experience with carbs...

Of course it always helps to have a good, well-running reference point to start with... but..

You can always just start with OEM and go with the old standard carb tuning protocols. Then let how it runs, and the condition of the plugs, dictate when, and how much, to increase jets....

You could also look into a Daytona Twin Tec ignition, since you switched cams, to optimize the spark advance...

FWIW... I have a Stage I 2001 88" springer w/CV40 carb with OEM ignition module... I kept the OEM jets (45/190) and switched to a CV Performance Velocity needle. After just dialing in the mixture screw it runs excellent... I bought it used 1.5 years ago w/9.6K miles. I will be changing out the spring cam tensioners in the near future and there will be a set of A21 cams in it's future...

They are also a great cam for 2up riding. Pulls the hills much better.

Yeah, really noticed that yesterday with the misses on the back - took a ride out and overtakes were much less effort too! (not that my misses is all that big :-D )
