Does anyone have a good epoxy that they recommend to put the nut inserts back into the inner fairing at the windshield?
while in Colorado last week, all 3 came out and I lost a new 11 FreedomShield at 80mph. Luckily the wife and I were wearing helmets or it could have been really bad.
Thanks in advance
The HD pn# for this is 16585-96. Here is a pic of the new insert (circled on rights loose in the plastic (on left)
Looking at the new insert it is deceiving because it looks like the slot uses a screwdriver to thread it in. This is incorrect. That side goes in first. Take a 3/8 x 16 bottoming tap which coincides with the OD threads on the insert and cut the first few threads in the hole
Next take a 1/4-20 x 1 bolt and two nuts to use as a driver. Thread the bolt into the new insert as shown in the pic below
Turn the insert into the hole. Turn it in until it is sticking out the same distance as the other two. Viola! You can now put your outer fairing back on and use the stock 1/4-20 windshield bolt in your newly repaired hole.
