Default sidecar specs for alignment

Hi. My friend with one leg has 2006 flhtc and sidecar.
The sidecar tire was bald at 5000 miles. If anyone has specs, maybe I could help him. I don't think the dealer has a clue. Any help would be great. Thanks. wildwillie2u

Default RE: sidecar specs for alignment

My sidecar tire is the original and has over 10K miles on it and showing very little signs of wear. If you only got 5K, you need to re-align your sidecar. I have attached a good web site that covers alignment of the hack

http://www.cyclesidecar.com/Guides/alignment.html

My hack is called "The Spyder" and is made by Motorvation Engineering of Iowa. These folks are very knowledgable and may be able to offer you some guidance.

www.motorvation.com

Basically, your bike should have a slight lean to the left and the sidecar should be slightly toed in. You may have to adjust it, ride for a distance and then readjust, but mine tracks true - doesn't pull left or right at speed.

You may want a steering dampener to prevent front wheel wobble as you decelerate or cross railroad tracks. I took mine of just to see, and quickly put it back on. When it was off the front end wobbled. I now see why many hack manufacturers recommend them.

Got to be mindful that, upon acceleration, the hack will pull you to the right and sudden application of brakes will have the hack push you to the left. All of that you get used to - I don't even think about it now.

Turning to the right, yes right, will lift the hack if you go throught the turn too fast. I raise the hack now and then just for the heck of it and always get comments from the bikers who see me do it. It's easy - but be careful, when it first happens it will scare you. Don't slam on the brakes, just decelerate the throttle and the hack will "land".

Hope this helps.
