Hi, I have just taken delivery of a new HD Ultra Ltd CVO. My first HD, and bought specifically with a view of persuading my wife to come touring with me. Love the bike, but have one annoying problem. Once the engine is warmed up after some faster running, it's just impossible to find neutral. Not a problem for the first 15 mins or so after start up. Very frustrating on a new Ł30K+ bike! Can't get a slot with a local dealer for 4 weeks to check it out under warranty either (covid etc). I would welcome any advice / understanding on what might be causing the issue in anticipation of the dealers,'they all do that sir' advice.
Usually folks rev the engine a wee bit and it snicks in. When I had a harley trans i'd reach down with my right hand and click into neutral or just shut it off to do it.
(I always want the bike in gear at a stop so you can get away in an emergency, i.e. some @ss clown not paying attention to the road when coming up behind you at a light or stop sign. don't want to get rear ended ).
It seemed to go in easier when I used Amsoil in the trans & primary
Mine is a 2014, so a slightly different bike, but it can be annoying in that respect as well. I seem to have better luck hitting neutral while still rolling to a stop, like if I am getting off the bike to open or close a gate. I leave it in gear at traffic stops as well.
My 2007 Sportster wasn't much better at getting into neutral.
With no prior Harley experience, I thought it was quite normal to play the game "can I find neutral?". My bike is in gear most of the time when I am riding, so it's not a biggie.
I look forward to commenters that might say they "can find neutral every time"

On my 2010 FLHR and FXSTC, I'm successful over 9 out of 10 times.
