Wow!! You got $17,000 on trade.
A new FXFBS is only $18,799
Kelly Blue Book trade-in is only $11,000.
Looks like Harley's plan is working to drive up prices.
I know it was pretty crazy, I was even looking really close to the contract to make sure there wasn’t any crazy charges in there. I only paid 14.5k for the bike new 2 years ago as it was a left over 18.
Makes sense though as I sold a Jeep to carvana for 3k more than I paid new a year ago and they offered me 7k more than I paid for my other Jeep.

I am still trying to do the math on this, it makes no sense to me based on where the market is for these bikes. Is your dealer maybe looking to clean some dirty money?

Got to look at it from a dealer stand point.
They don't buy the bikes outright cash, but pay interest on the bikes they get instead. The longer the New bike is in the shop sitting, then more money they are paying interest on the new bike, and the less profit made. So bike is sold, that money goes to paying off the new bike to stop the interest payments on it, and the used bike is sitting in the shop under a different fund that is working capital cash type thing isntead. Also, with the price of new bike, and the fact that they will sell a desirable used bike at lot faster, most dealers would rather just sell used bikes to start with. The glitch with this, Harley will cancel their dealership agreement , if they are not selling a fixed number of new bikes to begin with, and in HD's fashion.
So a little more on trade in to push the difference in your favor, is still a win/win on both parts. Hence it solves the HD fixed amount of new bikes they have to sell to keep HD happy, and put a used bike in the shop that is going to sell quickly as well.
