Looking at installing the 4 point Tour Pack Quick Release system. I want to use the stock tail light but not having any luck finding a bracket to put the LP on. I was looking for one that would just go underneath. I don't want to drill any holes into my fender. Any suggestions or ideas would be appreciated. ( I have the Zip Tie Idea covered)
Check out Softbrake , they should have what you need . You'll also have to change out your rear tailight with one that has a bottom window or rig up some sort of light .
I checked out Softbrake and found 1 that is supposed to work but there were no mounting instructions on the website. Any Idea how it might go on a 2012 Ultra Classic?
Depending on which one , I'm guessing your looking at the one with the 2 tabs at the top of the frame , you'll have to remove the signal light bar and place the license bracket behind it and re install the bolts . Pretty simple job , just have to see if a new brake lens with a lower window will work so it shines the light downward .
Looks like SoftBrake has a mount that doesn't require drilling. The hardest thing is finding a stock size brake light lens with the window on the bottom. When I was doing mines, all I could find with a tag window on the bottom was a low profile/lay down style one and that would need an LED bulb... because the stock incandescent one would be too close to the lens and the heat would eventually cause a problem. Drag Specialties sells such a lens for about $30, can't remember how much the LED bulb was. OR you could go with the SoftBrake tag mount and a lighted frame instead from Custom Dynamics for $35-45, and wire it in while you have the brake light housing off. Just be sure the Custom Dynamics tag frame will fit and look right on the SoftBrake tag mount. Then check and see if the Road King brake light lens in your year model will fit your bike and not have any tag window.
I drilled and mounted mine, used a Custom Dynamics illuminated tag frame, and put a Road King brake light lens on it.
Edit: Seems like the SoftBrake tag mount, with a Drag Specialties brake light lens w/bottom window, is the easiest way to go. Just add the cost of an LED bulb and a standard tag frame. If you do an illuminated tag frame you're still gonna need a brake light lens without any tag window, and have to wire in the frame.
