Angry 2020 Ultra Limited

Hello everyone, I am new to the forum and looking for opinions.

I traded in my 2012 Ultra this year for a 2020 Ultra.
I took it in to the dealer at 1030 miles to have the break-in service completed.
When I went to pick it up from the dealer there was a check engine light on and it ran really rough.
Service tech tried to clear the codes but upon restart I got the same results.
After sitting at the dealership for awhile the techs had determined the ECU had gotten wet when they washed the bike and it had shorted it out.
At the time I was told the dealer had put an used ECU in the bike so that I could make my 100 mile ride home that day. When they installed the "used" ECU the odometer all of a sudden states 011588 miles on the speedo.
I was also told they had ordered me a new updated ECU that was back ordered. I called the dealership in august when it was due in and was told it was still backordered, I called back in September and got the same story, I called again in October and was now told they did not order the "new updated ECU" because they took an ECU from a new bike being assembled but couldn't call it new because it did not come out of a box. So I then ask them how they are going to fix the odometer mileage on the bike, I was told it is impossible to change the odometer.
I proceeded to call Harley Customer Care who in turn got ahold of the dealership. The dealership told HCC that the ECU came out of a new bike that had 2 miles on it. HCC advised me to take the bike back to the dealership and they will fix it. I dropped the bike off yesterday at the dealer.
At the time I left the dealer with the used ECU I reset Trip B to 0. Upon dropping it off yesterday Trip B showed 1099.8 miles since the ECU swap. So the bike has 2130 miles on it since purchase. The odometer as of returning to the dealer yesterday shows 012687 miles.
I barely rode the bike and was scared to wash it all summer due to thinking I was waiting for a new updated ECU. I was worried of breaking down or shorting out this ECU also being I was told it was used.
I'm am being told this is not a known problem and they do not know how to fix it. This is a hell of a Odometer Discrepancy. I am being told the cannot change the mileage. It is showing there is 10557 miles that have not been driven on this bike.
Hopefully maybe somewhere this has happened to another bike and I can find how it worked out.
Thanks for reading

i never heard that before its a new one
Maybe somebody has had that happen on a car repair
its quite a situation the dealer shouldn't screw with the odometer for legal reasons but you shouldn't have an odometer with the wrong mileage
I bet if you asked another dealer they may tell you they can order the correct part with correct mileage from the factory

I figured it will take a calibrated ecu and odometer replacement.

I hope you have this all documented. Sounds like they need to give you a MC replacement. But they would tell you that they can't give you a good price due to so many miles on it!! Seriously, the moco should be able tro step in and make this right, one would think.

You need to call the MoCo back and get this issue resolved.

That's BS they're telling you that you have to live with a bike that shows thousands of more miles on it than it actually has on it.

Also, I don't believe that BS that the ECU shorted out because it got wet. What did they do when they washed it, put it in a swimming pool?

The word now as of a bit ago is that the engineers at HD can remotely hook in to the electronics on the bike and fix it after the dealership files the proper paperwork. Then it has to get approved at multiple levels before they can do it. They were talking about sending the ecu and cluster to Wisconsin to have them look at it, then after a phone call from Wisconsin I got told the above. Not sure how long this process takes but I assume it’ll be snowing here before it’s done.

Document everything dates, mileage, and everyone you have had contact with at this dealer. May need it for legal action if MoCo won't help you. Hell, best for them is give you new bike, similar to what you have. Sad story, hope you get it straightened out.

That’s a crazy story. I have owned 5 HD’s and washed them all at one time or another with the seat off. Many times with the seat on, and rode in very heavy rain for long distances. I have never had one affected by water or heard of that before.

I have never heard of a dealer switching out a ECU with a used one either.

Good luck. I hope you get this all resolved properly. This really stinks especially with a brand new bike.
